Ryan Funnies

Sitting at the dinner table this evening...

Daddy: Ryan, please eat your green beans.

Ryan: I don't want to grow big like you!

Ryan Funnies

Long overdue...here's a Ryan Funnies for your enjoyment!

I have a few Ryan Funnies from the past few months, but I just had to post this one from tonight. Our son is quite the character and he has a way of making me laugh even after a long, hard week!

Ryan is sick. Runny nose. It's been runny all day.

Daddy: Ryan, do you need a tissue?

Ryan: Yes.

Daddy: Ok then, don't wipe your nose on your sleeve, go get a tissue.

Ryan: There no tissues down here.

Daddy goes up to the bathroom closet to get a new box of tissues.

Daddy: Here you go...

Ryan: Oh thanks Dad! Great idea!

"Great Idea" is Ryan's new favorite phrase.

Ryan Funnies

Hmmmm....what's wrong with this picture?

Yes, Ryan is wearing his Santa jammies (gasp! after x-mas) but that's not it. Also, he sleeps with his favorite flashlight...well until I put it on his nightstand when I check on him late at night. That's not it either.

Did you guess the sock missing on his left foot?

Hmmmm....where did he put it?

I guess his hand got cold.

Such a silly boy!

Ryan Funnies

I NOT A DUCK!

After Ryan's bath (which is every other night in our household), he comes to the door of the nursery to say Hi to Kara and me...you can all guess what I am usually doing during his bath time...yep, feeding the baby! Six months done...only six to go! yay!!

Ok, back to Ryan and why this story is funny. The following conversation is what we have EVERY time he comes to the door...but he added a FUNNY different ending the other night.

Ryan: HI!!

Mama: Hi Duck.

Ryan: I NOT a duck mommy!

Mama: Could have fooled me...you look like a duck.

Ryan: No mommy, I Ryan. Not duck.

Mama: Oh ok. Hi Ryan. So if your first name is Ryan what is your last name?

Ryan: *with his serious face on* DUCK.

Ryan Funnies

This morning we were reading
The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.

If you haven't read this story before here is a quick review...

It involves a ladybug who happens to have a grouchy attitude one day. He wants to pick a fight with a happy ladybug but she won't give in to his eagerness to fight. So off the grouchy ladybug goes to try to pick a fight with some one else. Every hour, he runs into insects, birds, animals, in increasing order of size. The grouchy ladybug challenges each one to a fight, but when the other party agrees, he flees with the usual excuse - "you're too small" - only to find someone larger. It gets particularly funny when the grouchy ladybug encounters a blue whale - the largest known animal. Where this ladybug is but a dot on the page, a third of the whale's body occupies the entire spread. Yet tiny grouchy lady bug declares to the humongous whale - "You're too small for me." ...

I won't ruin the ending for you! Go get the book to find out what happens next.

The morals of this story are: Learn to share! Don't be a bully! Be humble - there are things larger and stronger than you! Well and don't be so grouchy! :)

Did you happen to notice that I made the words EVERY HOUR stand out above? This is where the Ryan Funnies comes in to play....

As you read the book, there are little clocks at the top of the page displaying what hour it is when the ladybug encounters a different and new creature. I thought it would be fun to have a mini lesson of "telling time" with Ryan after we were done reading the story. So I went back to the clocks and explained what the hands were for, that you must read a clock going "clockwise" or as Ryan liked to call it "you go dis way, mama?" as he moves his arm in a clockwise circular motion, etc. etc.!

Then the following conversation happened:

mama- This first clock says 6 o'clock. Do you see the little hand on the 6 and the big hand on the 12?

ryan- yes. 6 o'clock.

mama- ok, the next one reads 7 o'clock. Do you see that the little hand is now on the 7? That means it is 7 o'clock.

ryan- ohhhh. I see. Not 6 o'clock but 7 o'clock now.

mama- yes, correct! Now what does this clock say? (as I point to the next clock reading 8 o'clock)

ryan- it says "tick tock" tick tock"

Lesson for mommy- watch how you phrase your questions. Most likely Ryan won't get the 'slang' and answer the only way a 3 year old knows how. I got a good chuckle out of it and said, "Yes, Ryan. The clock goes tick tock". Back to square one.

Ryan Funnies

Last night we are sitting at the table, eating dinner and talking about the days events....

Mommy- Ryan don't you have something you want to tell Daddy?

Ryan- What Mommy?

Mommy- What did you eat today that you shouldn't have?

Ryan- Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh

Mommy- I think you need to tell Daddy and maybe apologize....

Ryan- *with a serious look on his face* I eat your cookies Daddy. No more left. They in my mouth. I sorry I eat your cookies.

We (Chris and I) look at each other and burst out laughing and are in complete shock at the paragraph he just said!

Ryan continues to eat...

Ryan Funnies

Boy it's been a while since I've posted a "Ryan Funnies"! Here's what I heard from the back seat today while driving the kids to get their Holiday pictures taken....

As I get off a ramp onto the highway...I start to speed up to keep with traffic.

Out of no where Ryan says...

"Mom...you go too fast. Slooooowwww Down please."

Might not be too funny to you but I laughed all the way to the studio. Oh the things that come out of his mouth lately. He cracks me up almost every day.

The Door Master

Do you see these?....

They are getting put on all our exterior doors, the basement door, the pantry door and finally Ryan's inside knob on his bedroom door. WHY...you may ask? Well here's a little story for your enjoyment...

A little flashback ~ In the past week, Ryan learned how to finally turn the knobs to make a door open. He is quite excited about this, as any 2.5 year old would be. He's been practicing his new talent instead of taking naps and in return, we have a cranky kid on our hands which hasn't been fun.

Today ~ It's nap time and I decided to catch up on some much neglected laundry. As I was about to turn on the washer (our laundry room is on the 2nd floor of our house- yes we know how lucky we truly are!), I hear his door knob start to rattle. I quickly jump over the laundry and grab his door knob from the outside and hold it tight! Hah HA!

We play tug of war for at least a minute (he has no clue that mommy is holding the door!) and finally he gives up. And this is what I hear... "Hmmmm....it's stuck." Then he mumbles something I don't understand and I hear him climb back into bed. SUCCESS!...hope this teaches him to stay in bed and take that nap! Doubt it...but a mommy can dream, right? :)

So today's score is:
Mommy ~ 1 Ryan ~ 0

a day in the park ~

After a rough day yesterday, I decided I wanted Ryan to have as much time outside as possible today. (I will not be creating a post about what Ryan did...all I will say is that it tops anything he has done in the past and if you are curious, please email me and I will give you the gross details) We took our daily walk and also stopped by the playground to burn some energy.

Ryan had fun running around and trying out all the different equipment. He is old enough now to climb everything without help and slide down tunnels without having someone there to catch him. It was neat to watch him explore everything and question what they were. He was very interested in the monkey bars and was sad to find out that there were no monkeys that climbed it! He seriously was bummed that he wasn't going to see a monkey today...he cracks me up! After we played and "exercised" at the park, we headed home.

It was a fairly warm day and he insisted on walking most of the way (except going up hills!). This was fine by me because the more I could tire him out the better! He soon started to sweat and said, "Mommy I hot! I want cold." I thought he wanted a drink and tried to give him his water but he pushed it away and said, "no I want cold house now!" Oh...you want to be in the air conditioning at the house. "wes (yes in Ryan's language)." I love that he is using his words more and creates longer sentences. Now if we can only get him to speak clearer, life would be grand!

Enjoy the following pictures of our day in the park and Ryan's narration. :)

"I touch da trees, mama!"

"No monkey! BOO!"

A very cautious Ryan kept saying..."Hold on! Hold on!" as he crossed the bridge!

"Look out mama!"

"I climb high, huh mama!"

"peek-a-boo"

and as we enjoyed our time in the park burning off energy, Kara was close by getting her beauty sleep!

Ryan Funnies

Today for lunch I decided to make Ryan a peanut butter and banana sandwich instead of the same 'ol PB&J. I let him help spread the PB onto the bread and as he did that, I got the banana. He took one look at the banana and said, "oh mommy no! dat a dirty 'anana!" I was confused for a moment before realizing that he thought it was dirty because it had started to brown. I explained that the banana wasn't dirty, it was just ripe (or very sweet). He gave me a "yea right, whatever you say, mom" look. He told me, "no- yucky dirty 'anana!" I peeled the banana and showed him that it looked normal from the inside (thank goodness there were no brown spots!). He looked over again and said, "oh mommy, magic! it look good again!" What a silly and VERY picky little boy.

Ryan Funnies

Ok- this one is something Ryan did this morning, not something he said. I almost didn't create this post because I was afraid that some would think I was a bad mommy...but then I realized that my mommy friends probably have similiar stories as does my mom and mother-in-law. So here it is...another Ryan Funny:

My morning schedule goes something like this.

After Kara's early morning feedings (usually around 6am), I get Ryan's breakfast ready and leave it on the table for him. Reason being he usually gets up when I am in the middle of Kara's second feeding. I also leave the tv on PBS so he has something to watch while eating. Yes, put me in the bad mommy club now...I use the tv as a babysitter in the mornings!

This morning I was so tired that completely forgot and went back to bed. When I woke up an hour later I realized that I hadn't prepared breakfast for him and went downstairs to get everything set up.

Well, guess who I see when I get down there?!

Yep, Ryan High. Sitting on the couch watching Jerry Springer and eating pretzels that Daddy left out from the night before!!

Of course I replaced those pretzels with cheerios and an apple cereal bar and switched Jerry to George (the monkey) immediately!

I guess it could have been much worse...he wasn't jumping up and down on the couch shouting "Jer-ry...Jer-ry!" while eating potato chips! :)

Ryan Funnies

Now that Ryan is starting to speak clearer and we are starting to understand our son more, I decided I need to document memorable conversations with him. I've cleverly named them "Ryan Funnies", so if you see this title, you know it's a post on Ryan's view of things...enjoy.

*Mommy smells poop*

Mama: Ryan did you poop your pants?

Ryan: What? (in his New York accent!)

Mama: I said, Did you poop your pants?

Ryan: *with a smirk on his face* No, mama. It was baby Kara!

Isn't it funny how quickly he learned to blame his younger sister??
