a broken record

Most days I feel like a broken record...saying the same things over and over and over and over...well you get the picture.

Can you guess who is the recipient of hearing me say the same thing over and over and over again throughout the day?

Here's a clue: It's not Kara.

That leaves only one other child in our house during the day. Did you guess Mr. Ryan High? I can't count the times I say throughout the day, "please do not pull Kara's arms, give her toys back to her, please keep your hands to yourself, could you go potty now, please don't talk back to me, that's it--TIME OUT!

Ryan is three. Did you know three is the new two? Yes, it's true. The terrible twos don't hold a candle to what a three year old boy will do these days. I am the unlucky one who has to deal with Ryan's crazy shenanigans and when we have our really bad days, I am green with envy for those moms who work outside of the home!

Don't get me wrong...I love Ryan more than life itself. He truly is a remarkable little boy. I know that this is normal behavior and he is trying to find his independence while testing his mama along the way. I just wish I had more patience to deal with all the craziness sometimes.

Another issue we've had lately with Ryan is listening. Or lack there of. I swear I am talking to a brick wall most days. We've always had a running joke about Ryan being in his own little world when he gives you the "space stare"...now it's not cute or even funny. It's frustrating.

The other day I decided to video tape just what I go through several times throughout the day so I could show everyone including Ryan aka Mr. Crazy. You are about to see a conversation (or attempt at) between Ryan and myself that was held after he pulled Kara's arms (for the umpteenth time!). I had him on a time out and in the clip, I am questioning him why he was in time out. I am sure you will get a chuckle from of it...I know I did after I watched it again. You can definitely tell when I am frustrated with him...I do the "mom sigh"....

Please ignore the bed head (he needs a hair cut again) and tummy shot at the end. Also, listen for his favorite saying at the very end as well. It's worth watching the entire clip!

Oh Bobbi! That is quite the exasperated Mom sigh! I'm sorry that you are having a rough go of it with Ryan. Obviously, because I don't have any tots I can't offer much other than sympathy.

Hey Bobbi, I hate to say it but when Riley was going through terrible 2's it turned into 3's then 4's then 5's well you get the picture:) I think that's a ploy that terrible 2 thing to make you think it's only temporary.

I've heard the terrible twos turn into the treacherous threes or something like that.

I know exactly how you feel right now, but I must confess, it makes me feel a lot better about myself as a mother when I see other mommies struggling, too.

Seeing Kara made me miss Abby at that age. She's going to two in a month, and I'm so sad.

Oh, my friend. It was as if you were speaking directly to me with this post. Honestly, I could relate to each and every point you made...the not listening, the time outs, the continual sibling torment.

I've had an idea for a post in my head for a while now entitled Toddlers are not always so Terrific.

I think you know what I'll be writing about. :)

I'm so sorry!! You should do a marble jar for him. Everytime he does good things he gets a marble, and when he doens't do what you say he gets one taken away. If he earns enough marbles he gets a special reward. I dunnoo....it worked for us kids when we were little. Haha. :)
