The Great Lunch Debate

TO EAT or NOT TO EAT...

famous last words

Sunday we were invited to Tony D's 4th birthday party.

That morning I got Ryan ready and asked him if he would like to watch a movie or sit in the office with Daddy while I got ready for the party.

He chose to sit in the office with Daddy.

Before I jumped in the shower, I told Ryan not to get dirty and reminded Daddy to watch him.

10 minutes later Chris came into the bathroom to show me this....

I guess I should have ended my sentence with,

"...or create an Indian mask on your face."

Today I am THANKFUL for washable markers.

mischievous children

Mommy is making breakfast...

Kara gets stuck in the play food container.

And yes, that's a fake french fry in her mouth.

Mommy makes a quick trip upstairs to switch the clothes from the washer to the dryer...

Someone from the RK Alliance creates a new chalkboard on our kitchen wall.

Mommy is making lunch....

Ryan decides Kara's hair needs a few more "accessories".

Never a dull moment here!

Crazy Days

Let's face it, most days are crazy. Just when I think I have everything under control, I am quickly and sadly reminded that I am outnumbered 2 to 1...every.single.day.

So really it came as no surprise when the RK Alliance decided to make an appearance today.

First the R of the RK Alliance (aka Ryan), decided to sneak some of Daddy's cookies and created a scavenger hunt this morning. I am slowly beginning to realize just how good Ryan is getting with setting up scavenger hunts. It seems like every other day I am finding crayons, kitchen items or even food hidden in the oddest places! Ryan likes to wait for a few hours to see if I will notice what he's done and if I don't, then he "tattles" on himself. While most times it's quite comical to play his little game of hide and seek, I have to say the food is starting to concern me because I do not want ants or even worse, rodents to start showing up.

Today's hunt was for cookies. The only reason I knew he had gotten into them is because I caught Kara trying to eat one!!!
So thus began another HUNT...the funniest place I found a cookie today:

I lifted the lid to the piano AND....viola! (silly picture would not turn!)

Here's the mastermind behind all the scavenger hunts. Thanks buddy for keeping Mommy on her toes all.day.long! Don't ya just love his devilish grin?

Next up would be the K in the RK Alliance (aka Kara).

She's sweet. She's petite. She's sneaky too!

Just look what she will do!!

This girl has NO fear! She will climb any and every thing!!! I meant to put their lawn chairs outside this morning and had them sitting by our sliding glass door. It didn't take Ryan long to find them and set them up in the middle of the family room. Then it didn't take Kara long to figure out how to climb up and STAND on them!

Truly, this little girl is going to give me a run for my money!

Even Ryan was SHOCKED! haha.

Hmmmm. Now how do I get down?

Ummm. Nope! Not that way!!! This would be the last picture I took before grabbing her and taking her off the chair completely. Then I placed both chairs outside where they belonged!

I was able (between all the craziness!) to record Kara being such a good Mommy to her baby! But of course, leave it to Ryan and his three year old potty mouth to sour the moment. *sigh*

Miss Jekyll and Hyde

Tuesday was not a good day.

It all started in the wee hours of the morning (1 am to be exact) when Kara woke up and didn't want to go back to bed. She didn't want to be held or rocked. She didn't want to nurse. She didn't even want to play.
She only wanted to cry and after a few hours of that, so did I...

We finally got her to sleep by 4:30 am (yes, Daddy got up around 3 am to help) and I crawled back in bed praying that Ryan would decide to sleep in...thankfully I got a good 4 hours sleep.

Kara woke up feeling worse and I spent the rest of the day trying to ease her pain.

We went through several teethers...

They were just a temporary relief just like the baby orajel and Tylenol.

Look at those tears! break my heart...

By dinnertime, I don't know who cried harder. Ok, that answer is easy...Kara always wins!

Click on photo to see her bottom teeth.

After giving her an ice cube in her Baby Safe Feeder, she finally calmed down enough to try out a new sippy cup. She liked it for about 30 seconds before starting to cry once again. :(

So I did what any other mommy who is about to lose her mind from listening to a screaming baby all day would do....text her husband to come home immediately!

As soon as Chris arrived home, I handed over Cranky Kara and went for a walk. The fresh air was great to clear my mind and relax a little. I came back to the house ready for Round 58 with a crying baby, but also with a mission to relieve her teething pain for good. I've had several people tell me about a new natural remedy called teething tablets. I was a little skeptical at first but after experiencing a day like this, I knew they were worth a try.

I loaded Ryan into the car and off we went to Babies R Us to purchase these...

I don't know how they work, but they work! Within 30 minutes, she actually started to smile and went to bed without fussing. Then a miracle happened. She slept 10 hours straight and woke up this morning happy!

so Wednesday was a good day!

HAIL!

Today we experienced some crazy weather!

It rained this morning. Then the sun came out early this afternoon, it started to rain again and finally it was just cloudy. By early evening, the sky started to get really dark and then this came flying out of the sky...

HAIL!

The storm lasted a good 20+ minutes and at times it sounded like a huge bucket of golf balls were being dumped on our house!

It was scary and exciting all at the same time. Ryan was fascinated with seeing the hail and begged to touch it. Chris (who was just as fascinated) got Ryan into his rain coat and took him outside so they could both investigate the stuff that fell from the sky!

This is a picture of the largest ball they found. It was the size of a half dollar coin!

Here is Ryan in his froggy rain coat (which is way too small for him!) standing in the rain and having fun!

Checking out the HAIL. This was a great educational experience on weather!

Then all of a sudden we saw this...

the SUN!

Below is a montage of video clips that Chris took of the weather...

Some Notes:

  • In the beginning of the video, Chris and Ryan are comparing the hail balls to the balls that are in our Hungry Hippo Game. Ryan calls them peanuts (don't ask why) and as soon as he saw the hail, he told us that peanuts were falling from the sky! hahaha.

  • As I edited the clips, I couldn't help but notice a few things. Most importantly, I am completely convinced that our shrubs/bushes located in the front of our house need to be replaced. We've wanted to do this for 4 years now but haven't taken the time to do it. Mark my words...we WILL find the time this summer! And lastly, I need to take my snowman stakes down and put them away already. I mean it is Spring now, right? :)

I'll HUFF and I'll PUFF and I'll....

...blow your grill over!

Yes, folks. That's a picture of our awesome grill that Chris' co-workers got us as a wedding gift back in 2004. It is Chris' pride and joy...or shall I say...was his pride and joy.

Is it just me or do you find it crazy how strong that wind must have been to just pick up this grill and knock it down like it did? It looks like a mini tornado caused this damage!

Chris found the grill this morning and when he picked it back up, he noticed that the lid had broken off. Great. Just what we need...another thing to fix or replace. We just bought the new washer and had to shell out hundreds of dollars to get the truck fixed so it would pass inspection...now this.

We live in a wind tunnel.

Chris makes fun of me when I say this but it's true. In the almost 4 years that we've called this place home, our grill has been knocked over by the wind several times. We also have problems with our shingles flying off the roof causing my husband to risk his life to fix them. Twice in the past six months our fireplace (piece of crap that we don't use) cap has flown off too. As I type this, it sounds like the wind is about to come screaming through our walls. It's ridiculous and extremely annoying. Can you tell what kind of day I am having so far?

If this saying is correct, "Everything Comes In Threes", then our luck should change soon, right? Gosh I hope so...

In other news... I have so many posts to create but no time or energy to create them. I finally picked and uploaded the Christmas pictures I want to use for part four of our Holiday Review. Now I just have to write something clever to go with them. I know how much you all love my cleverness. So look for some clever posts coming soon...hopefully sooner then later.
